RFYI WRITER & RESEARCHER INTERN

The role

Ribbit.FYI (RFYI) is an original explainer comic under Unfold Asia. We’re looking for someone who’s interested in finding creative ways to make important information more exciting. 

If you’re drawn to observe, research and understand how and why things work, and if you are an avid reader of Vox, The Pudding, Kontinentalist, or any kind of data journalism - you might be the right person for this job.

We tell stories about people and the world around us, in ways that give our audience something to think about. We aren’t a news site, but we aim to stay on top of what’s going on in the world in order to make relevant content for our readers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist, initiate and conduct  research for RFYI’s topics.  

  • Work with the team to script short-form explainers and comics for RFYI.

  • Identify potential upcoming content opportunities such as festivals and news events.

  • Collaborate with the illustrator to ideate and ensure clarity and readability of content 

  • Participate in monthly story pitches for RFYI content.

Requirements

  • A good command of written English.

  • A tendency to stay up-to-date on world news.

  • An openness to different perspectives on life and the world.

  • Sense of humour.

  • No confirmation bias.

  • At least one field that you have a strong interest in and a reasonable knowledge of.

  • Some research experience.

  • Bonus: basic knowledge of data cleaning and in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets.
